It started as a doodle and soon became more... I found, after reflecting the left side to create the right, that it kind of resembles an inkblot used in projective psychological testing. When I copied and reflected the top to make the bottom, I discovered that the design made all kinds of interesting shapes and patterns based on how far they were spaced from one another. The spacing effected the facial expressions of the wolf and also made some really awesome patterns in the middle.

Domesticated (Afternoon in The Garden)

"Domesticated" began as a doodle in my Moleskine notebook. After drawing an extension on some printer paper, I scanned it into Illustrator, where I traced and finished it-- And by traced I mean by hand, with the pen tool. Yes, I am a crazy person.

The Forest Folk

This is a personal illustration project. First, I created the original 19 x 42" drawing (see below). Next, I taped tracing paper over the drawing and inked it. The intention here was to preserve the original drawing so I could cut the tracing paper into tiny pieces for scanning without heartbreak. The ink translates better in a scan and allows for auto-tracing with significantly less head-ache. I scanned the pieces into Photoshop, stitched them back together very carefully, and adjusted the curves to maximize contrast while maintaining detail. Next, a trip over to Illustrator to be vectorized with auto-trace. Last, back to Photoshop where I added color and assembled the rest of the imagery.

Frolic! was originally a t-shirt design submitted to Threadless.com. Recently I reworked the design, employing texture instead of flat color. The background of the recent Frolic! also features a custom pattern design inspired by the art of Henna tattoos.
