Overgrown, 2012 Acrylic on canvas 100 x 120 cm I was recently sitting in my backyard which boasts a great array of concrete and weeds. The golden afternoon light made these surroundings look almost beautiful and I felt compelled to paint it. Not sure if painting will ever be my forte, but nice to give it a crack again after so long.

In ‘Strangers’, people in the background of my travel photos are brought to the foreground as the subjects. Caught beyond the focus of the camera’s gaze, the strangers embody less self-consciousness, free from a preconceived facade for the image.

An unfinished drawing of a face. No model/reference. Drawing and erasing/wiping over and over in an effort to become more mindful of the habitual process I've inevitably adopted in defining a face. Consequently, I hope to break it down to approach portraiture through pure observation and not the mind's preconceived construct. More soon...

Life drawing portrait

A portrait of the model from life drawing yesterday. At the risk of being self-deprecating, I was so disappointed with this one. It was a considerably longer pose than usual and it didn't manifest in the way I imagined... each stroke, so self-conscious and laboured. Hopefully next time inhibitions will cease to influence...
