Wonderful Transmissions From Space (For Sale)

This is another Design for The Flaming Lips Challenge at Threadless http://www.threadless.com/theflaminglips/wonderful-transmissions-from-space/ The Flaming Lips played at a place called Jodrell Bank a few years ago, which is very close to where I live. Jodrell Bank is an observatory which has the third largest radio telescope in the world. It's an amazing place, and so fitting for the band because I always link them to space. (Here's a clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2ZlpH59Uk0) They also did a cover of the whole album "Dark Side of the Moon". I always heard that you could watch the The Wizard of Oz at the same time as listening to that album and they'd be in sync. SO I've used CC images, along with my own art, to create this design which brings all my thoughts together. It includes a public domain image of The Wizard of Oz by Lyman Frank Baum. Sorry for the long text, and I hope you like it, I had so much fun making it!

This is my entry in the new Flaming Lips Challenge at Threadless, I freaking love the Flaming Lips - I've been lucky enough to see them twice, so I got straight to work on finishing something I started a while ago. Please score here http://www.threadless.com/theflaminglips/any-color-you-like/, you might help make a dream some true as I've always wanted to make something for one of my favourite bands! In 2009 they recorded a cover of the whole Pink Floyd album, Dark side of the Moon. They took something that was very close to my heart, twisted it and came up with something sublime, that I love just as much as the original, but for totally different reasons. That's what I've tried to do with this design, take something everyone knows, and make something different with it, which I hope sits well with the music.

As a teenager I did a ouija board in an old decrepit house in the middle of nowhere with some friends. The glass moved, and it was really quite scary. Obviously afterwards we found out that someone was messing around with the little glass, but even now I can remember the peeling wallpaper, the smell of damp and dust and the feeling of terror I had at the time. Anyway, the title comes from a favourite episode of lost.

I made this out of vintage creative commons images about two years ago and totally forgot about it. For those that don't know "Delftware denotes blue and white pottery made in and around Delft in the Netherlands and the tin-glazed pottery made in the Netherlands from the 16th century'. I just liked the idea of a delftware werewolf!

Super proud and excited to say that my design for Threadless & VH1 Save The Music Foundation won the challenge. I was excited a few months back to find out that it was being printed, but only found out today that the design won! I like revisiting work and changing it, improving it, sometimes making it worse :P This is a rework of something I did back in June last year, and I've recently started playing with bright "poppy" colours and organic drips. So I've completely reworked this and named it after a song I like, by Richard Ashcroft.

This is my entry to the glow in the dark challenge at Threadless. http://www.threadless.com/plainwhitets/noche-de-los-muertos/ "When I read about the challenge it got me thinking about night and day. I flipped around a couple of ideas. Everyone knows about the Day of the Dead, so I thought about Night of the Dead. Making the lightbulb fill with a glow in the dark sugar skull, which would look rad under blacklight. At night moths flock around lightbulbs, so I thought what if butterflies were attracted to lightbulbs in the day time. I guess this could also work the other way around too "Día de Muertos", with the sugar skull showing up in UV ink, the butterfly in glow ink." I was pretty pleased with the way it came out, so wanted to put it up here. Thanks for looking!

This is my entry into a Marvel Hulk challenge at Threadless - http://www.threadless.com/Hulk/hulkvetica/ Thought it might make a nice print too. I got to thinking about the transformation, how he goes from being a normal skinny guy, to huge green monster. Then this idea hit me. Using increasing weights of type, coupled with a flesh colour gradually changing to green to represent the metamorphosis. These are all words I associate with The Hulk, from getting angry as David Banner to wanting to smash puny humans as The Hulk!
