The Unseen Bestiary - Project

This isn't a piece of art but a request for you, yes YOU!, to help me with a future art project :) Bestiaries (A compendium of Beasts) were incredibly popular during the Middle Ages. Documenting animals, birds, reptiles and all manner of exotic fauna. What made these bestiaries very unusual is that in many cases the artist had never seen the animals they depicted and so had to build up a picture through written descriptions, copying other people's work and exercising their imagination. The Unseen Bestiary is a project which hopes to emulate that happy state of ignorance by asking for people to submit their descriptions of Creatures/Insects/Plants to me. The result of these submissions will be a series of Paintings and Etchings based on the descriptions. Criteria for the Unseen Bestiary: 1. I can't have seen the creature before, either in real-life or in a photo 2. I can't use any reference for the creature other than the description which is sent to me 3. I can use references to other animals to help me I'll be documenting all of the submissions online at http://www.unseenbestiary.com and eventually choosing a selection of them to produce a series of Paintings and Etchings. These will also be documented online including any sketches and references I use. So, with all of that in mind, if you would like to help me out and submit a description of a 'Beast' I would greatly appreciate it. Descriptions can be as vague or as detailed as you like.
