How I wonder what you are!
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky!

When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.

Then the traveller in the dark,
Thanks you for your tiny spark,
He could not see which way to go,
If you did not twinkle so.

In the dark blue sky you keep,
And often through my curtains peep,
For you never shut your eye,
Till the sun is in the sky.

As your bright and tiny spark,
Lights the traveller in the dark,—
Though I know not what you are,
Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

Lichenographia universalis

Why thank you Wikipedia:

Lichenology is the branch of mycology that studies the lichens, symbiotic organisms made up by the association of a microscopical alga with a cyanbacteria or filamentous fungus.

The taxonomy of lichens was first intensively investigated by the Swedish botanist Erik Acharius (1757-1819), who is therefore sometimes named the "father of lichenology". Acharius was a student of Carolus Linnaeus. Some of his more important works on the subject, which marked the beginning of lichenology as a discipline, are:

    * Lichenographiae Suecia prodromus (1798)
    * Methodus lichenum (1803)
    * Lichenographia universalis (1810)
    * Synopsis methodica lichenum (1814)

Later lichenologists include the American botanist Edward Tuckerman and the Russian evolutionary biologist Konstantin Merezhkovsky.

Quartz

I used to be a rockhounder and went to meetings at the local botanical garden. Activities included cutting and polishing stones for bolo ties, making wire trees with small gem leaves, field trips to quarries and rocky outcrops for a day of stone breaking in search of fossils. I even won a small trophy for a terrible story about traveling through the heart of a particular mineral.
