Making of a Daily Anke

Curious how I work? You're in luck! I just taped a process-video of creating a Daily Anke. And you're even luckier, this is a drawing that'll go online in June! So you're getting a sneakpeak :) I always start with a basic version of 'me' and just start editing. I usually have an idea, before I start. But often that changes when I'm drawing. An incredibly weird experience. Today I got my FLOW. My favorite magazine, for inspiration, to use for collages and thumb through. I actually applied for a internship there a while back, but they didn’t have any room. So in short: I really like it :) So i’m browsing, turn the page.. and see an illustration I MADE!! Totally unreal! (page on the right, find the octopus!) The downside is, my name isn’t mentioned, because it’s a page from the WoeDoeBoek I created for Groter Groeien. They do mention that, just now who designed it.. It sort of feels like it doesn’t count, but still.. Totally cool to see you own work in a magazine you love! My Paper Stories

I’ve had my ankepankedesign etsy shop for a while, selling various digital designs, mainly for scrapbooking purposes, but I’ve lost interest for some time. I still like the designs, but feel like it’s time for something new. Re-Inspired by my graduation-subject (crisis » recycling), I’ve decided to stock my shop with lots of fun stuff created by recycled paper. I love to work with my hands and create. Using (paper) objects that have become obsolete to someone else, I can use to create new, beautiful things. Like a roadmap or a sheet of music-paper: fold, cut and glue it and you’ve got an awesome envelope! How great is it to receive that kind of mail? I visit the thrift store as often as I can, looking for hidden treasures and forgotten gems. Do-book for children I created for Groter Groeien (Sanoma Media). The complete book consist of 100 pages with all kinds of fun things to do, like: puzzles, coloring, a secret envelope, spot the difference, make a sandcastle, etcetera. It was a fun project to do and it turned out really good! The book will become available in magazine-stores in October 2011 (in the Netherlands). Design differs a little bit from the actual product. I can’t say I’ve gotten new assignments (yet), but this is definitely good for networking and/or getting your name out there. So I’d like to share this with you.
