Free hand digital painting, overlaid with textures to mimic that of an aged antiqued mirror.

Inspired by the 18th Century French court of Louis and Marie Antoinette in Versailles .
In the mid- to late-1770s, huge hair became all the rage. The height of these styles was generally about 1 to 1 1/2 times the length of the face, and was styled in what was considered a pyramid shape (it also looks very much like a hot air balloon. This high hairstyle, called the pouf, was created using toques (or “cushions”) which were made of fabric or cork and shaped like a heart or spear. It was attached to the top of the head, and then natural and false hair was curled, waved, or frizzed and piled over and around the cushion. Such elaborate hairstyles could be worn for days or weeks at a time.
The pouf was often styled into allegories of current events, such as à l’inoculation(vaccine), ballon (Montgolfier balloon experiments); or concepts, such as à la Zodiaque, à la frivolité, des migraines, etc. Ornaments included lots of ribbons, pearls, jewels, flowers, feathers, as well as ships, birdcages, and other items that evoked the theme.

Sœurs de la Nuit (For Sale)

<img src="http://a1.s6img.com/cdn/0007/p/1427765_11417446_l.jpg"/>Sœurs de la Nuit is french for "Sisters pf the Night"

Part of the Vampire Ball Series

Inspired by one of my all time favourite films the 1967 Roman Polanski film “Dance of the Vampires”., that also goes by the name of The Fearless Vampire Killers, or Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck (shortened to The Fearless Vampire Killers;.
The film is set in the heart of Transylvania where Professor Abronsius, of the University of Königsberg, and his apprentice Alfred are on the hunt for vampires. Abronsius is old and withering and barely able to survive the cold ride through the wintry forests, while Alfred is bumbling and introverted. The two hunters come to a small Eastern European town seemingly at the end of a long search for signs of vampires. The two stay at a local inn, full of angst-ridden townspeople who perform strange rituals to fend off an unseen evil.

The Chattel (For Sale)

<img src="http://a1.s6img.com/cdn/0007/p/1394271_3587747_l.jpg"/>
Chattel
definition
1. Law An article of movable personal property.
2. A slave.
[Middle English chatel, movable property, from Old French, from Medieval Latin

At the beginning of the Victorian period upon her marriage everything a woman once owned in her own right, including property and any money she might earn or inherit automatically belonged to her husband. Married Victorian women had no voice, and their hands were tied. They became the chattel of the man. She could not divorce her husband, though he could divorce her for adultery, and in the event of a divorce, he would automatically get custody of the children and she had no rights of access to see her children. A divorced woman had no chance of acceptance in society again.

“Rapunzel” is a German fairy tale in the collection assembled by the Brothers Grimm, and first published in 1812.. he Grimm Brothers’ story is an adaptation of the fairy tale Persinette by Charlotte-Rose de Caumont de La Force, originally published in 1698.

Rapunzel’s story has striking similarities to the 10th century AD Persian tale of Rudāba, included in the epic poem Shahnameh by Ferdowsi. Rudāba offers to let down her hair from her tower so that her lover Zāl can climb up to her.

Some elements of the fairy tale might also have originally been based upon the tale of Saint Barbara, who was said to have been locked in a tower by her father.

Aveline (Vampire Ball) (For Sale)

<img src="http://a1.s6img.com/cdn/0007/p/1287459_12876032_l.jpg"/>A free hand classical digital painting. The Nymph's Reply

If all the world and love were young,
And truth in every shepherd's tongue,
These pretty pleasures might me move
To live with thee and be thy love.

Time drives the flocks from field to fold,
When rivers rage and rocks grow cold,
And Philomel becometh dumb;
The rest complains of cares to come.

The flowers do fade, and wanton fields
To wayward winter reckoning yields;
A honey tongue, a heart of gall,
Is fancy's spring, but sorrow's fall.

Thy gowns, thy shoes, thy beds of roses,
Thy cap, thy kirtle, and thy posies
Soon break, soon wither, soon forgotten,--
In folly ripe, in reason rotten.

Thy belt of straw and ivy buds,
The coral clasps and amber studs,
All these in me no means can move
To come to thee and be thy love.

But could youth last and love still breed,
Had joys no date nor age no need,
Then these delights my mind might move
To live with thee and be thy love.

The Shepherd's Commendation of His Nymph

What shepherd can express
The favour of her face
To whom, in this distress,
I do appeal for grace?
A thousand Cupids fly
About her gentle eye;

From which each throws a dart,
That kindleth soft sweet fire
Within my sighing heart,
Possessed by desire:
No sweeter life I try
Than in her love to die!

The lily in the field,
That glories in his white,
For pureness now must yield
And render up his right;
Heaven pictured in her face
Doth promise joy and grace.

Fair Cynthia's silver light,
That beats on running streams,
Compares not with her white,
Whose hairs are all sunbeams:
So bright my Nymph doth shine
As day unto my eyne!

With this, there is a red,
Exceeds the damask-rose,
Which in her cheeks is spread,
Where every favour grows;
In sky there is no star,
But she surmounts it far.

When Phoebus from the bed
Of Thetis doth arise,
The morning, blushing red,
In fair carnation-wise,
He shows in my Nymph's face,
As Queen of every grace.

This pleasant lily-white,
This taint of roseate red,
This Cynthia's silver light,
This sweet fair Dea spread,
These sunbeams in mine eye,
These beauties, make me die!

Inspired by the song "Je Ne Regrette Rien" by Edif Piaf and the decadence of Versailles and 18th Century Europe.

"Je Ne Regrette Rien"
(No, I regret nothing)

(English Translation)

No! Absolutely nothing...
No! I regret nothing
Neither the good that I've done nor the bad
All this is much the same to me!

No! Absolutely nothing...
No! I regret nothing...
It is paid, swept away, forgotten
I don't care about the past!

With my souvenirs
I lit a fire
My sorrows, my pleasures
I need them no more!

Swept away the love affairs
With their tremors
Swept away forever
I leave with nothing ...

No! Absolutely nothing...
No! I regret nothing
Neither the good that I've done nor the bad
All this is much the same to me!

No! Absolutely nothing...
No! I regret nothing...
Because my life, because my joys
Today that begins with you!

Vous êtes en retard! But the foolish man kissed me at his will
And hoped that Dauceny's affections he'd kill.

In helping to speak desire, those words taking o'er me.
