The purpose of this documentation is to bring awareness of the negative affect of human intervention on natural ecosystems which are constricted from natural cycles by physical barriers like roads, loss of sedimentary runoff and overbuilding.

These images are a study of cellular automation, or micro-structure modeling, specifically Steven Wolfram’s one-dimensional pattern first derived in 1983.

The automation divides a preconceived mass into contoured planes into a grid of points. Lots of chaos in an ordered fashion.

Original Sketch Series - Erosion Patterning (For Sale)

This original sketch was a response to a design collaboration with furniture designer, Olivia Cyr. Simbiotek visited La Jolla cove, a local beach well known for its erosion patterns, to study the effects of erosion on the bluff rocks. In recording the natural behavior of the geological aggregate breakdown we found that layered patterning occurs. Each layer begins erosion by the systematic removal of rock fragments by environmental degradation around weak points along the surface. These points grow larger and larger until a single layer is removed.

This particular sketch was a graphic representation of this process following the path of each weak point migration to its adjacent neighbor. The reflection of light can be a beautiful thing, especially when passing through a geometric formation like a prism. These graphic prints are part of a series of explorations of prism shapes as seen in a two-dimensional view. They look great paired in twos or threes in spaces that reflect a modern, eclectic vibe.

Hexagon Prism (For Sale)

The nature of space reflects what it wants to be.

Prism graphic prints at Simbiotek are part of a series of explorations using geometric patterns and polyhedra which form prism shapes. Aristotle knew a thing or two about biology. This little print is part of an exploration that began with a fascination with the interesting graphical patterns formed by structures in animal cells. An endoplasm is represented in the biological process of cells, being the inner most structural component of a cell's cytoplasm. Look around voronoi patterns are not just in cells, they are nature's most beautiful mathematical logic!

Triangle of Six Refracted Prism (For Sale)

The nature of space reflects what it wants to be.
