As seasons end, life also ends, but there is new birth in its place.

He lived on Beaver Island, located in Lake Michigan, and acted as both a recluse and an island everyman, sometimes serving as a doctor for the other islanders. He was an island within an island.
This piece was made with cut paper elements, watercolour, and digital painting. This series examines the portrayal of powerful women in folklore, especially how such women were branded as evil enchantresses and witches. When their tales are analyzed, one finds that they represent basic human qualities that are negative or fear-invoking.

A Slavic witch from the wilds, she is portrayed as a lone old hag who eats children and flies in a mortar and pestle. However, when one looks at her depictions, she represents the mysterious power that women have to give life. While she has no children herself, she is deeply connected to the land around her.

Rumoured to be a demoness, Xtabay slept with any man who asked in exchange for jewelry and fine clothes. Most villagers shunned her for her lust, but what they failed to notice was that she took these luxury items to the poor and needy, giving up almost all she owned in acts of charity. She also cared for unwanted animals. When she died, her body smelled of beautiful flowers. This duality in her personality allowed for a dynamic, iconic depiction as both lustful beauty and gentle caregiver.

They feel it. They see it.

They know.
