When the two met, their destinies were never fulfilled. Zeus intervened and turned the two beasts into stones and cast them into the stars. This painting captures the two as their bodies twist in motion to create the infinity symbol (∞), for their game of fleeing and pursuit is endless.

Thus Semele was burned to a cinder by the splendor of Zeus and his lightning flash. From her ashes came Dionysus, the god of wine and madness. This painting portrays the surreal moment when lightning and body intermingle.

Hera comes down to see Zeus loitering with a white heifer beside him, which was actually Io in disguise. This painting highlights these interactions as Io, with the head of the white heifer she is soon to become, is in the arms of Zeus, disguised as a fantastical cloud.

Apollo chases Daphne for he now loves her, but Daphne wants nothing to do with him. As she flees from her pursuer, she prays for help to keep Apollo away from her. This painting depicts the transformation of Daphne into the laurel tree as she flees from Apollo. Still in love with Daphne, he kisses her bark and proclaims, “If you can’t be my wife, you shall be my tree.” Thus the laurel tree became a symbol of Apollo. His head is that of a white raven’s, which was also a symbol of Apollo.
