Part of the 'And the Circus Leaves Town...' series, Not sure how I feel about this - I started it months ago, and with unfortunate busyness hadn't returned to it until recently - the distinct image I had in my minds eye had gone! Old Work - from a series of women in folklore Oya; the Yoruba Goddess of the Niger river. The creator of hurricanes and tornadoes and guardian of the underworld. As she dances her skirts whirl and gather the winds; harbouring their power. Beyond destruction, she encompasses the ideas of change and transition; and often the chaos brought with it.

Old work - from a series based on women in folklore Itzpapalotl, the skeletal warrior goddess of the Aztecs, sometimes referred to as the obsidian butterfly. She was often considered one of the chihauteteo - spirits of women who died in childbirth. Childbirth was often considered a form of battle, and its victims were honoured as fallen warriors. Their remains were thought to have strengthened the resolve of other warriors; yet their spirits became much-feared and were said to have stolen children and seduced men to untimely ends. Itzpapalotl is said to have followed the latter, devouring the men whom she'd seduce.
