Pink Lotus (For Sale)

I drew this lotus with colored pencils. The symbolism of a pink lotus is that it represents the highest enlightenment. It is a reminder of what I strive for.

Weird (For Sale)

This piece is one I hold most precious. I've been labeled "weird" by most people I meet for years and have never liked it. The word "weird" is so ambiguous, one never knows quite what to think about being described with it. At best, I've just taken it to mean that I'm different in some way, and the person doesn't know me or understand something I've done. At worst, it has made me feel small and insecure. This drawing sprang out of the notion that calling a person weird is at best an act of extreme laziness and carelessness. Also that I'm perhaps not weird; just multifaceted. I know I'm not the only one who has been labeled in this way and I hope those people, if they see my drawing get some comfort and empowerment out of it like I did when I drew it.

Squirrel Monster (For Sale)

This was a very experimental piece for me. I paint and draw "monsterized" versions of things from time to time. The first was an "ugly duckling" that I now have tattooed on my arm. It was so amusing and healing that I've begun a whole series of other "uglies."

This is one of my all-time favorite flowers. I love it because it reminds me of my favorite kind of people. It's sturdy stem that grounds it supports a delicate, beautiful flower. It also happens to be the state flower of Louisiana, where I live. I did this drawing in charcoal.

I took this photo on the levy next the Mississippi River in New Orleans just before Mardi Gras. The beads had been left there by people celebrating on the water a year or more before.
