On a magical night, in a maze made of trees, Grew a tree most strange that swayed in the breeze. The tree grew apples, and oranges too, Fruit tasty and juicy, sparkled with dew. But high in the branches was a straw nest, Where a dragon’s egg hatchling, starts his quest. Oscar the Dragon, just out of his shell, Reached for an apple, but alas – he fell! Oscar fell to the ground, but he was not hurt, His new green wings were only flecked with dirt, Oscar shook his head, and lashed his long tail, And all of the dirt fell clean off his scales. Oscar sniffed the night air and a sweet perfume arose, “That which I can smell, – I’ll eat one of those!” So Oscar climbed the branches of the hedge trees, Clawing his way through all of the leaves. Yet the perfume still floated in the night air, “That delicious aroma – it must be somewhere!” Oscar climbed again and again, He began to think it wall all in vain. And the he heard a little voice speak, “You can smell the Roses, but you must not eat!” Oscar turned his gaze to the sky, To find a spider in a web stretched wide. “My name is Zoe and I am thought wise, You should not eat the Roses, for which you prize!” But Oscar did not listen to Zoe the spider, And searched the garden, higher and wider. He climbed the garden gate and by a frog lily pond, Oscar looked for the Roses of which he grew fond. The frogs in the lily pond sang loudly too, “We would not eat the Roses, if we were you!” Oscar did not care and climbed another garden gate, He climbed higher and faster – he could not wait! Oscar was hungry and the perfume strong, “I want to eat the Roses, it can’t be wrong!” Oscar climbed a statue, the tallest of them all, In search of the Roses, once and for all! At last, in the moonlight, a sight so fine- Red Roses in an urn, perfect, divine! Oscar’s hunger was ever now growing, He jumped to the urn, red with Roses overflowing! He leapt from the statue with the greatest of ease, And gracefully glided on the gentle breeze. The urn was tall without a doubt, But this was no obstacle for Oscar to surmount!
