‘Stay away from humans’ mother hedgehog always say. ‘They are vile creatures!’ But little hedgehog would not listen. She was curious and a little rebellious. One faithful day she decided to visit a nearby village, disguised as a human child. ‘They will never be able to tell that I’m not human,’ she chuckled. But little did she know that when she started playing with the children she had so much fun that she fell asleep carelessly and her disguise fell apart, revealing a little hedgehog once again. The humans were horrified and thought of her as a demon child, and slayed her without remorse. The mother hedgehog, finding her lifeless child at the foot of a hill, cried and howl in vain. At the end, she brought her baby to the river bank and made a pact with the water god. The young hedgehog was revived as a daughter of the water god with no memories of the past and in return her mother’s life was sacrificed without ever being remembered by her child…

This artwork features a Rokurokubi (a Japanese folklore demon who is a normal woman by day but gains the ability to lengthen their necks at night) who was heart broken when the human man she fell deeply in love with went insane after seeing what she really is. To save him she took away his memories of her and the love they have been nurturing and disappears into the forest, never to appear in the human world again.
