Black Annis would lurking in the branches of an old oak tree, poised ready to ambush lambs or children who played out after dark. Failing this she would head for the town, to snatch sleeping children straight from their beds. Dragging her victims back to her lair, “Black Annis’ Bower,” was where she would skin them alive and feast on their flesh. The skins would be hung over the branches of the old oak tree to dry.
