We are wasting time from birth to death. Milling around and tricking ourselves into believing we are important. We get pets, buy houses, take trips, go to shows, buy hot tubs, take cooking classes, learn shamanism...ANYTHING...in an attempt to not look at the moment with brutal honesty. We are dying...hopefully not so soon...but dying we are.

April25th, The Full Pink Moon

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

The Byrds, Turn!Turn!Turn!
lyrics adapted by Pete Seeger from the Book of Ecclesiastes

Are you ready for spring? The question was posed by my neighbor as we discussed our weekend plans. I had to bite my tongue as to not point out that spring arrived over a month ago, but I managed silence as I knew exactly what she meant. And the answer is an emphatic NO. No, I am not ready for spring. I'm dawdling and ill prepared; my yard work seems stalled as a part of our yard is in construction. Even the plants seem late.

TURN! TURN! TURN!
That last sentence is a lie. The plants are never late. They are timed quite intricately to the sun calendar and temperature. Perhaps what I mean is that this spring feels more blustery than the norm. Trees are leafing, the cherry and apple trees are about to turn the world pink. Nature is on time.

TURN! TURN! TURN!
Time is moving whether we are ready or not...a particularly hard lesson I learned this past month. Another dear family member has passed, our Aunt Sue, and I feel our house has been cloaked in mourning for so long. Must we all return to dust?

TURN! TURN! TURN!
But everything has a season, has a time. To bloom or to decay. We are powerless to stop it, best to just enjoy it. And this month, the world is turning pink.

It appears to be through the laptop skins, but it isn't the image scaled down. I very much dislike how several appear- including this one with cropped moons (ew!!!)- but I a do not have an idea where to begin. Anyone else played with this yet and if so, any secret formula or answers would be much appreciated.

Like most artists, commercial success seems to be the parameter by which I judge my artistic prowess. I recall my own feverish rush in my first sale, an iPhone cover. As if selling an iPhone cover validated my entire life timeline and all of my life decisions. Yet, there I was squealing with pride to my husband that I had made a sale. I gushed that I had become a professional. He complimented me on the sale, smiled that boyish grin and asked exactly what I had become 'professional' at. Despite his ribbing, I believed that this $3.50 commissioned sale changed everything. I was now a 'real artist'.

That sale was about 6 months ago and I've had other sales along the way, but my artistic identity has not remained buoyed despite the sales. The title 'real artist' seems to be something I do not know how to own. I frequently feel like a poser posting art among the better and more talented. Clearly, they are the real artists. What do I think I am playing at?

When I first joined Society 6, there was that lure that top selling artists get checks for thousands of dollars a month. Now I wonder who these artists are; most of us seem to get an orgasmic seizure when we sell one pillow. But are we not real artists? What is the criteria upon which we should be judging ourselves? OR more to the point: What will it take for me to stop second guessing every pencil mark, every ink line?

I don't have the answer; my crisis of identity seems to occur near daily making my kind spirited spouse roll his eyes in a continual spiral One of my art giants posted here about his insecurity with his work and his sluggish sales. I'm relieved to not be alone, but more panicked that if he is perusing this question, I am quite screwed. Surely, if he doesn't have the answer, I never will.

I started this work about a month ago as an illustration for a dream I had (perhaps it was more of a lesson) and with the circle week announced, I knew I had to finish it. It is less than art, but articulate enough to explain the main point of the dream:

We create artificial bubbles around ourselves to prop up our egos, but these bubbles are an illusion that keeps us from moving towards our soul's completion. We are one with everything (the large circle)- not separate or distinct as we prefer to believe. Even when the bubbles of belief intersect, the result is not a minor shift, but a distinct one.

Anyway...I am not doing the dream justice in my words above. If you have an interest in the dream, it is recorded here:
