In this show, we will launch our collaboration of pushdot fine art prints mounted on Plywerk sustainable bamboo panels. The exhibition features eight amazing female artists whose work demonstrates what happens when presentation says it all.

The exhibition will be up through February 26th but the opening reception is tomorrow! Come join us for fantastic art, artists, nibbles, cheap beer and mimes. There might not be any mimes there, but we can hope.

Matt also has a show coming up this month in NYC with an opening at Kilmat (77 East 7th Street) on October 16th.

Plywerk loves you

<img src="http://images.s6cdn.net/cdn/images/post_10/25890_5404627_p.jpg" width="200" height="150"/>We're a small company based in Portland, Oregon. Our mantra? "Sustainable photo mounting & bamboo art panels". But we're more than that really. The main thing is that we love art and we love helping artists... and we love Portland. So that works out quite well really.

A lot of our work is done with artists and photographers. All of whom are after an original way to display their work which isn't just mass produced foam board. Machines can't infuse their products with arty love, we can! Every Plywerk is handmade here in Portland by a small group of Plywerkers. We even have Stevie Wonder on repeat in our studio to add that extra bit of loving into each Plywerk panel.

So, if you're interested in Plywerk check out our website, check out our flickr with images from other artists using Plywerk and you should definitely apply for our current grant. We're giving the winner 10 6x9 bamboo Plywerk and a bunch of promotion for what ever they end up doing with the panels.

Finally, congratulations to Gavin Potenza for winning our last grant. http://gavinpotenza.society6.com/

Lets face it, if your art isn't photography you don't necessarily want to scan it and reproduce it, you want something original to offer. Blank Plywerk panels are perfect for this. You can get a panel in all the usual sizes with or without adhesive and do your own thing with it. We've seen artists getting creative with the panels in different ways and it's great to see and hear about.

Here are a few artists who went for Plywerk, DIY style. Check out our flickr page for more.

Kim, a photographer, needing to mount a photo, grabbed a piece of discarded plywood from the aforementioned dark, cold--really just plain dreary--basement and glued a photo to it. A light bulb beamed from atop the self-professed frugal entrepreneur Kjell's head, temporarily blinding his wife Kim. But from that one piece of disposable wood, a sustainable Ma and Pa business was formed.

They began selling their modern artisanal and earth friendly wares at local art walks, moving up to the big time of the Portland Saturday Market. There they met like-minded artists and together they succeeded in opening up a co-op shop of their very own called Splurge on Lower Fremont.

Since their claustrophobic basement (it was seriously a small basement) beginnings in 2006, Plywerk has grown in size and demand. By adding friend and colleague Johnny Zeigler in 2007, Plywerk continues its desire to branch out to not only fill the demand for their product, but to strengthen their bond with other Portland artists and businesses. They are part of this local economy and know that their growth means the growth of their partners and their community.
